Fresh heartwood is salmon-red to reddish-brown, darkening to a deeper red-brown with age and exposure.
Natural durability: Very good resistance to fungi and insects (durability class 2). Relative resistance to animal organisms: Dry wood borers D, termites M, and marine borers D.
Use class: 3 = Weathered, but without constant contact with soil or water.
Strength class: No visual grading for structural applications.
Specific gravity: 880–900 kg/m³ at 12% moisture content.
