Natural durability: Good natural resistance to decay and insects.
Heartwood: Suitable for interior and some exterior uses when properly designed and protected.

Workability: Moderate; the interlocked grain can be challenging, but the wood takes a fine finish.
Use class: 3 = Weathered, but without constant contact with soil or water (e.g. covered or semi-protected exterior areas).
Strength class: Janka hardness approx. 2,170 lbf (9,650 N); Modulus of Rupture approx. 19,500 psi (134 MPa); Modulus of Elasticity approx. 2,500,000 psi (17.2 GPa).
Specific gravity: Approx. 850–950 kg/m³ at 12%
